Firstly: Welcome to NSM (there is an introduction thread in the off topic section, maybe you could introduce yourself :D).

I happy that you are a Pokemon arranger, but why did you chose Ecruteak City? I have already spent a week on that arrangment, but haven't finished it. When I will have finished my arrangment I will send you mine, so we can compare to figure out some mistakes (as well in your arrangment as in mine).

The Ending theme sounds nice :D.

BTW, you should format your sheets correctly. (there is a specific thread for that!)

Firstly: Thanks! that SMW theme took lots of work, and I am mainly a Legend of Zelda arranger, im just working out the kinks on the songs (theyre from spirit tracks) before i place them here (but Pokémon runs a close second). Ecruteak City was an old piece that I've been meaning to put up here (and I also had a Cerulean City... but that has been claimed). My next Pokémon arrangement will probably be Lilycove City or Fallarbor Town, or Pastoria City, im unsure at the moment

Secondly: I thought I already uploaded sheets with the formatted guidelines, i'll fix those  :D

I have a list of new updates that you should all expect in the future!

Future Updates (Bolded are Requests)

I'll add more to this list (and take some off) when I get arrangements done
Title: Re: Dr. Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW - Saffron City - June 30]
Post by: pumpy_heart on June 30, 2010, 07:30:14 PM
I just downloaded and listened to Saffron City from GSC. It sounds right, spot on actually. However, it is lacking a key signature.
It's in D major, F# and C#. Measure 6 and the like delve out of it briefly, like most songs of the second generation do. For example, in Vermillion City from GSC (I arranged, in my topic), the original key signature is A major (F#, C#, and G#) but in one of the measures, it is based off a F major chord (F, A, C), two notes not in the key signature.
Ramble ramble. So Saffron City is in D major. If you put your piece in that key, it will look better and become easier to play.

Ok! I'll fix it!

And I do know about major chords and key signatures, and all the what not... just for future knowledge. But you didnt know, so no problem.

Thanks for the feedback  :D

Post by: pumpy_heart on June 30, 2010, 11:21:37 PM
Db = C#. That's why changing the key signature makes so much sense. No more swapping between D flat and D natural when there aren't any real D flats in the piece. Just C sharps.
So change that, and you should be fine (:

Ok! Enharmonic tones! gotta love 'em.  :D

I input all the songs into finale by piano, so it just assumes Db, when it should be C#. I'll be more careful next time   ;D

Post by: DrP on July 01, 2010, 12:16:01 AM
that should be good. you can check for perfection (and I won't stop until it's perfect)

I do have a question, how did you know Saffron City was in D Major (or did you assume from my submission)?

Post by: DrP on July 01, 2010, 08:03:05 AM
Well, that comes with a three-fold answer:
1) I'm a musical genius
2) I input from a piano, instead of using simple edit in finale
3) I have LOTS of free time. I can churn out a 30 bar song in about 5 hours when all is said and done
(also, not to mention, I have had unfinished works I was working on that I finally started up and finished)  :D

Post by: pumpy_heart on July 01, 2010, 10:07:13 AM
How did I know D major? I know a ton of music theory.
Besides the fact that it looked like F# and C# were used a lot, measures 1 and 4, the beginning of each phrase, started with a D major chord. As I looked through the rest of the piece, all the chords used were based around D major, save for the A diminished chord in measure 5, which acts as a refreshing, but startling sound in stark comparison to the D major chord right before it.

I thought you just assumed from listening from the piece a lot... so it did come from the piece! cool.

and you cracked my arranging code... now i have to arrange differently. haha

Nice arrangements. I noticed that you said that some of your arrangements have an ending going no where.

You could just leave it as repeating, because most videogame music repeats.

Something about Chancellor Cole's theme sounds a little... Off. Near the end the notes just don't sound right. I found a MIDI that sounded weird like that. Here's a link to my version (I do not plan on uploading it for NSM.) : Chancellor Cole MUS (http://www.mediafire.com/?fzn4mzkenft)
I hope that helps.

ur spirit tracks village song is wrong-the 16ths should be a pick up, everything else needs to be on beats 1 and 3(like at measure 5, it should start on beat 1, not 2)
Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW - In Town/In the Fields (Spirit Tracks)]
Post by: DrP on July 03, 2010, 10:26:05 AM
there was a reason why I did put the notes on 2 and 4. that base line does sound likes its on an offbeat, especially if the pickups are included in the first measure. the offbeat gives it a little kick when you wouldnt expect it.

i have fixed the sheet just to make it easier for you and others who just dont like the feel of it

Post by: Olimar12345 on July 03, 2010, 10:43:40 AM
its starting to sound better, but then in measure 14 the bass line should go [quarter-2 eighths-quarter-2 eighths], urs goes [quarter-QUARTER-2 eighths-quarter] , throwing it off again. in measure 18 those eighth notes in the treble line should be a pick up in the previous measure.

Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW - In Town/In the Fields (Spirit Tracks)]
Post by: DrP on July 03, 2010, 02:07:50 PM
it would have been a change of pace a little bit, and that's the part that everyone knows well.
Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW - In Town/In the Fields (Spirit Tracks)]
Post by: MasterPenguin on July 03, 2010, 02:48:49 PM
There's a lot more going on than a simple change of pace. Your entire counter melody changes. While it's true that the melody is just simply sped up, there is so much more going on, which makes the song sound entirely different. That's why the song doesn't get boring after looping itself - it changes more than enough to keep you interested.

Post by: DrP on July 03, 2010, 03:37:43 PM
sorry, i didn't see your last post, but i fixed it. i see what you meant, everything was pushed over basically a quarter rest. i input everything by piano into finale (if you read an earlier post, its easier than simple edit in finale), and then I edit it there.

I'm not the best pianist, but it took me about a week to get everything down on the Ending Theme, you need the full 4-fingered chords, but you can play the top two notes if its too hard  :D

Oh, why oh why do all the good stuff happen when I'm away for one little week? Your arrangements sound fantastic, and I'd love to lay them one day. Really great stuff, there. Do you take requests as well?

The Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver version of the Dark Cave theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNh25Q5t4xQ

It's a lot higher than the G/S version, so much that the bass goes above the main melody, I think. In other words, you'd have to play the main melody with the left hand.

Also, I see you're a Pokéfan. Check out Emergence! (Yes, I'll say that as often as I get the opportunity)

Quote from: Cobraroll on July 06, 2010, 02:50:23 AMOh, why oh why do all the good stuff happen when I'm away for one little week? Your arrangements sound fantastic, and I'd love to lay them one day. Really great stuff, there. Do you take requests as well?

The Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver version of the Dark Cave theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNh25Q5t4xQ

It's a lot higher than the G/S version, so much that the bass goes above the main melody, I think. In other words, you'd have to play the main melody with the left hand.

Also, I see you're a Pokéfan. Check out Emergence! (Yes, I'll say that as often as I get the opportunity)
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?action=post;topic=2192.30;num_replies=43#top

I love it when there's a melody in the left hand! if you go onto my first page, look down at my "up and coming" list. feel free to request (as you did above) but i'm working on a bunch of songs from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (I think you requested one or two). I'll put Dark Cave on the list!

Thanks so much. I hope you love playing my arrangements as I do (cause I wont put them here until I played it myself... correction, I play it straight into finale)

Hmm... when I click that link you provided, it leads to "reply to this topic".

And yeah, I requested one or two songs from D/P already (most likely one, seeing as D/P has my least favourite music in all the Pokémon games). Anyway, thanks for arranging! As soon as I get my own PC back, I'll have a look at your sheets (as opposed to just listening to the MID), and I'll probably print and play one or two as well.

Post by: DrP on July 06, 2010, 10:12:52 AM
the link was from your reply for emergence from the quote... i guess it didnt transfer well. Listening to the MIDIs are OK, but once you have the good piano voicings in finale, then you can hear it all good (and D/P does have some pretty bad music. it sounds all electronic and its the toughest stuff ive worked with, with the echos on snowpoint city, that was a PINTA, im looking forward to Sinnoh Underground, though!)

I like Floaroma, but one thing - and don't take this too much to heart - there is a bit of pedal overuse.
Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW-Floraroma Town]
Post by: DrP on July 07, 2010, 06:42:53 PM
no, if i just leave one pedal then all the sound blends together... the pedal is my actual foot when I arrange the song. if I let it blend together, it would sound like blah.

I spot a mistake there... The song is from Gold/Silver/Crystal, not on NDS, and it's awesome.

Great work!

Umm, sorry to correct you, drpamp, but Route 29 is from Gold/Silver, not Diamond/Pearl.

Thanks! It was pretty late when I put it up and I have been doing lots of Diamond and Pearl arrangements (but I could always say its [NDS] Pokémon HeartGold/Soul Silver - Route 29)... but that isnt the right arrangement for Gen IV anyways!! haha

Damn you, you fool! jk.

So, Veilstone City is up... on to the Bicycle theme from Pokémon Gold and Silver

I also uploaded something I arranged for Steel Drum Band about a year ago that my group and I performed at Disneyland! Hope its good for you (and I had so much fun playing it!)

Is that Bicycle Theme for harpsichord? Or is it a guitar duet? It's hard to hear from the MID.

Anyway, we have a piano arrangement for it already on site. But this might be better. I'll check when Finale Reader is finished downloading.
Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW-Veilstone City/Bicycle]

Its a harpsichord. It will be changed to piano for the big Pokémon G/S Medley a bunch of us are doing!

Don't we have the G/S/C Ending on site already? It's there under "Staff Credits"

Or you mean the "The End" ending, which is a much slower version of the credits theme?
Title: Re: Dr Pamplemousse's Submissions [NEW-SS Aqua/Oreburgh City]
Post by: DrP on July 12, 2010, 01:25:04 PM
You may have it on the site already, but for our G/S medley, we are rewriting a bunch of songs to put into it. We don't want to include every single arranger on site, also... then itll just be a long mess of credit on the first page of the sheet. Plus, I think I can make it better

Post by: DrP on July 12, 2010, 07:20:40 PM
I has a secret... but anyone with a mac can make sheets so much faster!

Here's the secret: I plug my digital piano into my Mac, I open Garageband, I listen to the song about 5 times, I begin to play along with the song and I improvise from there. I record the melody and bass and I export to a MIDI file (using an external program) and then I import into finale, and fix any problems (and the key signature is there... yay!) et voilà... C'est fini!

The Ending theme will be 1) more playable and 2) sound better for a Grand Finale!

I can give you what I have of Sunyshore. What I picked out. I kept getting annoyed though. Not much at all. The intro is right, and so are the first 8 measures of melody except 1. And I couldn't pick out a bass line that wasn't super crazy, but that may be the only option.

And sorry to be a pain, but the G/S/C version of the tune is different from the HG/SS one. The HG/SS version is at least two octaves higher, the main melody is played with the other hand, and the bass would thus have to be rewritten.

The Super Mario World Ending is missing half of the song and is the wrong octave in many part (for instance measure 3 and the section onward).

Also, it has no articulation whatsoever and is missing a key signature change.  When compared to Brian's fantastic arrangement of the same song, this is honesty rubbish. (an older member that never submitted anything as he was part of another group)

It's been brought to my attention before. I think how I arranged it is fine. It technically wasn't meant for submission (and I won't submit it to Concerto or Nakah). I made a Clarinet and some other instrumentation to accompany it, and this was just the piano part. There was more, but there's only piano music here, so that's why I kept it like that.

Congrats to your friend Brian. I really didn't put much effort and though into creating this specific sheet, so you see why...

In Pokewalker, I couldn't help but think that a staccato on the crotchet in the first and second bars might help? If you listen to the song, you'll hear that the second note is much more detached. Just a thought, not hugely necessary.

It's what everyone outside America calls a quarter note. And just in case you want the rest of them:

Semibreve = Whole Note
Minim = Half Note
Crotchet = Quarter Note
Quaver = Eighth note
Semiquaver = Sixteenth Note

I had the same problem when I first heard people calling something a quarter note lol :P

Ok, concerning Route 3: I think it's better if you take one of the piano halls as Ambience instead of the concert hall, I prefer the Piano Hall 2, because it's "smaller" than Piano Hall 1 and so the sound isn't so far away. What bothers me is that the melody sounds very weak, that might be in cause of the mf dynamic, Finale is only able to attach a dynamic to one staff - as far as I know. ;D Besides that, I think the arrangement is wonderful!

Yep... i know. The mf is supposed to be for the melody only. it's a finale error. if you want to hear it just fine, just take it out and it would sound much better!

If I can somehow fix it, ill re-upload it

It is a Medley from Majora's Mask, using only some of the new Zelda Music!

Listened to Project Kronos and I have to admit: I'm not convinced right now. The transitions between the songs seems to be pretty abrupt and some of the songs seem to me in the wrong key, or is it just me? I also would to like see use of the pedal, especially in the last song. Further I'd like to see the names of the songs in the score, I didn't recognise some of them, because I didn't play it for a long time.

The changes in the songs is pretty abrupt. I understand the logic for different keys, but the transitions could be better.
Also, you have one part written in Ab when it should be Db. You used F#'s instead of the possible Gb.
There is some overlap too. Playing eighth notes on top over whole notes. That could be fixed up pretty easily.
It all can actually. There's a good medley here, just needs some tidying up.

From playing those songs I can say I enjoy what you did with the Astral observatory chords, but measure 95 and 107 seed odd to me. And I agree with the abruptness :/  that note on 210 is REALLY abrupt too, kinda scared me.

I love it though, Majora's Mask is amazing, this must've taken ages.

I know... I can write the thing and put 95% down, but I need an editor (its the same in physical writing)... I figured out the second Clock Town section was in Gb Major, but I was too lazy to re-transpose it...
The overlap could have been avoided, but... ... I place the blame on college. I'm lucky I am releasing something like this now.

They will, however be fixed if I release individual sheets (which I'll probably do to the Music Box House, cause last time I checked, the one on the site sucked)

I know... and the transitions aren't my thing. Also, per the note... that was a finale error. It wasn't loud enough without the accent then the accent OVER accents the note... there's no middle ground in finale, which I really hate!

My next project, deemed Project Shadow is in the works and will be much more fine tuned from this one... and not a lot of people will focus on it. I will also be embarking on Project Dual World (a Zelda game with two separate worlds on it) at the same time (keep in mind these are different games!)

Lastly, I really truly meant this to be something to listen to... not necessarily looking for aesthetics. If it were up to me, I would put on stuff for a full concert band/symphony and such, but this place is strictly piano except for compositions, so... whatever!

I have a small complaint about your "Eterna City" arrangement. The left hand all looks very crowded and such with all the triplet notes, but there wouldn't have to be any if you would simply set it to Swing instead (in the expression tool), and just make them eighth notes.

Same with Veilston; they don't need to be dotted eighths if you set swing; it will automatically make them sound like that.

Also... your Route 3 has no real bass...

Also... the Surfing theme from RSE is in 3/4 time, not 4/4...

Ok, so far, so good!

Castelia City:
Wonderful arrangement, but I just hate that theme, Masuda-san, what the heck did you think while
composing this annoying tune?! :D

Rival Battle:
"Spirito" means "celestial" or "holy"; to say that the tune got spirit, "agitato" or "allegro con brio" are better!
The 16ths in front of the 8ths should be changed to grace notes, then it's perfect imo!

Plasma Grunt Battle:
First, thank you very much for that! Now the critique: The first few measure deeply remind me
of the beginning of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", maybe you could fast it up a bit.
Then, in measure 10, it's better to have the right hand all with chords, the 3 Bb's are not so strong alone. ;D
Measure 14 sounds off in the right hand and after this changes, it should be wonderful!

If my best friend calls me, you hear a part of Gimme all your Lovin by ZZ Top. If my metal head friend calls me, you hear Back in Black

The only Pokémon is Rocket Tower Takeover for my mom (has an evil condescension, huh?) and Driftveil City for generic.

Thank you very much for the Volvagia Battle! Two things: The key is G Major, despite the very chromatic demeanor. Then change the 3/4 parts to 6/8 parts, you use 3/4 only for a waltz or other dance-like feeling, but not if you just have 6 eights in a measure. ;)

Haha all three are great ones. Make sure you don't get too messed up on the 5/8 section of Icirrus! ;)

Also I have a complaint (though a small one) about Nuvema Town...it is a very good arrangement, soundwise and playability wise...but it is made unnecessarily awkward because of the fact that your arrangement is in 4/4 time and the song is in 6/8... it's not a huge deal, since most 6/8 songs can be played in twos, but it still is a little questionable why it is arranged like that.

Have you started Victory Road yet? If you have, I'd like to hear it once you're done. Then I'll decide whether I'll actually bother to arrange it. :)

I have added some songs...

These will be it for a while.

My secret was going to be some Platinum songs, but I am just way to busy to complete these sheets.

This will be it until late June, however, I will be adding stuff to my to-do list periodically.

Fingerz: Go attempt Victory Road. I've crossed it off. Go do it.

Not really, it's just the only game I would like music from at this point. I want to arrange lots of Pokemon and he might take the one I want again (;D), Kirby is good but I haven't played a lot of it, never played Metroid... yah I like Animal Crossing. Zelda would be cool too.

I think people were confused and assumed they had a choice in the matter.

I was one of them.

Actually I voted for Kirby.

It's all good. I may make one sheet from the winning game series

You better not ruin my monopolizing streak on BW
And some of the stuff was just filler. I never really played Metroid or anything remotely close to it (except for Samus on SSBB)

My friends got me a joke copy of City Folk that I may just play because doing nothing but fishing for control over Nook makes my day :D. hahaha. Anyone have City Folk?

ATTENTION ALL:

A new situation has developed.

I will be scrapping current work on my current "secretive" submission from a certain LoZ game and beginning work on an orchestral arrangement that I still have yet to complete, because it sounds so amazing already, but I still have to add about 30 bars to complete. I will post a new poll that speculates which game this orchestral arrangement is from :D

Thank you for your cooperation and once this arrangement is finished, I will return to regular scheduled programming.

(I just want to get this done. I want to see this finished all the way through -- this has nothing to do with the orchestral thing on the site whatsoever)

^Disregard that message... I gave up... Fed Tax is more important!

Also, I was bored today and so I arranged something from Skyward Sword. Enjoy.

This is NOT permanent. I just fade in and out when I please!

I didn't know he or those arrangements existed.

I did see his and well... I think I have a good shot. It's all messy...

Also, another sheet is up. I couldn't resist when I finally got the base key!

It's pretty good! :) My only suggestion would be to make it faster. I'm pretty sure it's faster in the game.

The main difference between Dr. P's arrangement of "Knight Academy" and GoronOrchestrated's arrangement is key signature: Dr.P's has one, and Goron's doesn't. Aside from that, I actually like Goron's arrangement slightly better because his usage of mordent is more accurate to the original than Dr. P's.

On measures 4, 8, and the like of Knight's Academy, where you have the high 16th notes from C to D, there should be a triplet: C -- D -- C and then the 8th note B and C into measure 5.

Sorry for the poor description.
