I'm relatively new to arranging music. So I want to work on my ear training/arranging skills. I'd appreciate any help you provide :)

Here's my first arrangement! "LogBox Larks" from Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. Let me know what you think!

[pdf] [[midi] [[XML] [Source] Note, it's often referred to as the "night theme", but this is incorrect.

Nice sheet! I think you did a good job of keeping the feel of the original track. I'm pretty new to arranging myself, but there are a couple things that stand out to me that I figured I'd comment on.

  • m.12 b.1 RH - This 16th triplet sounds like it should be a mordent to me.
  • m.51-64 RH - I'm not hearing this same chord repeated here. It's not super clear, but I'm hearing the strings hit another A an octave lower than the one you have written on the offbeat. It's more noticeable on m.55/56/59/etc. beat 4.5 where it definitely sounds to me like it goes up. (Also in those measures is there a reason you opted for 16th triplets over grace notes?)
  • m.70/74 RH - I feel like making these chords arpeggiated might help retain the feel of the original.

I didn't have time to go over it in too much depth, but that's everything I've got for now.
Always glad to see more people arranging VGM and I hope you keep it up!  :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I chose the sextuplets because I personally heard it that way. It sounds to me like it is specifically that rhythm, and not just a series of fast notes, without a sense of rhythm.

Thank you for the other notes, I'll look it into more! :)
