InsigTurtle

its molar mass is around 378 g/mol. so go with 37/8 time

this is the only correct decision and you may not choose anything else

But I need a formula to go with, and what if a compound/molecule's molar mass is, say, 273 g/mol? 571? 339?

EDIT: I'm open to trying really anything, even 37/8, but I needs a formula.

In 13 posts swimswamit has swimswum his way into my heart and it baffles me how likeable this guy is.

InsigTurtle

if it's 571, then go with 57/1 time. or if it's 18, then 1/8. if 339, then 33/9. each measure consists of 33 ninths of a whole note

Fuck logic, that shit is boring, lame and does not always support my opinions.

LuxraySpiral

A 2/7 song about hydrogen cyanide would be interesting to listen to

But is it notatable in Finale or elsewhere?

If there's a way I could, I would do those complex time sigs, but to my knowledge, it has to be 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc., and not every molar mass can be manipulated/separated into one of those values.

I didn't even know there were time signatures like that. Definitely not possible in Musescore, but I don't know about Finale.

It isn't.

Quote from: Bloop on March 17, 2017, 03:54:09 AMOr just do a 378/4 time signature
That seems like an unorthodox way of asserting some sort of dominance.

Maelstrom

It is if you use the compound time sig tool that lets you input custom values.

Bloop

What if your formula is:
Time signature = (a + b + c + ...)/8, where a = last (non zero) number of first atom, b = last (non zero) number of second atom, c = last (non zero) number of third atom, etc
So in your case, C25H50N2
a = 5
b = 5
c = 2
Time signature = (5+5+2)/8 = 12/8
You could divide the accents like one and a two and three and a four and five and (thus keeping the 5+5+2 rhythm instead of the 3+3+3+3 rhythm)

I am confused, impressed, and loving this idea all at the same time.
