So I have a melody in my head, and I have no idea what it is from. I think it's from a game of some sort. I entered the part of melody that I remembered as a piano part in Finale. I really hope someone knows what it's from! I am not sure, but I think it sounds a bit like a theme from one of the Pokemon Ranger games, if that helps.

The midi file you can listen to is here. Thanks so much, anyone who wants to help!

Gaming / What's Your Least Favorite Game?
July 25, 2012, 08:30:27 PM
Here's an interesting topic, what's your least favorite game?

I'd say any generic FPS, and also Skyrim. I loathe that game.

Would someone please do this??? It's the title music from Professor Layton's London Life, a bonus RPG game included in Professor Layton and the Last Specter. The composers are Masato Nakamura, Ryo Shintani, and Hiroshi Kusuhara.

I love this song and think a piano arrangement would sound beautiful. I keep trying to arrange it myself but I can never get the chords right. :/

Off-Topic / Club Nintendo
July 06, 2012, 12:32:25 PM
Okay, so this is my first year as a Club Nintendo member, and I was excited about the elite status rewards as I had enough games to get to platinum, and had seen the previous rewards which had included some pretty cool stuff. In fact, even some of the regular rewards seemed awesome, and I was personally hoping for a cool soundtrack CD as they had in the past done that with Ocarina of Time for buying the game on its release date.

.....
Nintendo: "lolnope"

Seriously? These rewards suuuuuck. Posters are pretty cool, especially the Luigi's Mansion one, but THREE posters for 600 coins?! Especially when Skyward Sword and Uprising are the same as their boxart pretty much! Seriously? There are already posters available as rewards. And playing cards? Same thing. It's a little different, but not 600 coins worth! The games suck, as I already have Mario vs Donkey Kong and Majora's Mask and don't have interest in Metroid II or Super Mario Kart. And quite honestly, it would be WAAAAY cheaper to just buy those games.

I think I might actually go with the calendar on this one, because at least I know I'll get some use out of it.

Overall, I'm very disappointed with these rewards and I hope I'm not the only one? And which reward are you going to choose? I'm just at a total loss because they all suck so bad. -_- Sorry if I'm ranting.

Nintendo / Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 Music
June 21, 2012, 06:03:42 PM
The new games will be upon Japan this Saturday. As a talking point, here is new music, confirmed to be official:

Sound familiar? Yeah, that's the Hoenn battle music. Probably a World Champions theme, I'm guessing. But still, what does this mean? Go on and speculate, guys. :)

Alright, I'm not sure how many other film score fanatics there are out there, but I'm interested to know who your favorite film composer is. You can choose two.

NOMINEES

John Williams is who I expect to come out on top, because he's the most iconic. He really understands how to make music work for a film as well as WITH it. The Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter franchises (among MANY MANY more) would not be the same without this brilliant man.

Danny Elfman is an obvious nominee, with his quirky, often achingly beautiful, and occasionally even badass themes. Check out "Edward Scissorhands," "Big Fish," and maybe even "Men in Black" to get a feel for his wonderful scores.

Hans Zimmer manages to remain as one of the most popular because....well, I'm not totally sure why, to be honest. He has great themes for Pirates of the Caribbean, and won an Oscar for his score to the Lion King. His earth-shattering score for Inception is instantly recognizable, and the murky, dank score for the Dark Knight as well as the lopsided, quirky theme for Sherlock Holmes are also iconic. Not much of it stands as OMG AMAZING music, but he has quite a following. I'm a fan of most of Zimmer's work, but he isn't a genius by my standards. I'm including him anyway, though, because I think he's noteworthy.

Howard Shore, while not as fantastic a musician as other composers, has quite a large following due largely to his phenomenal Lord of the Rings music, which won him two oscars. He is an interesting fellow and his recent score for Hugo also shows that he is capable of centering around several main themes in equal parts.

Joe Hisaishi is my personal favorite simply due to his amazing consistency for greatness. If you haven't heard any of his wonderful music for Hayao Miyazaki films yet, I suggest you slap yourself and then go listen to one of them. Whether he opts for a tone that is brooding and breathtaking (Spirited Away), simplistically beautiful (Castle in the Sky), grand and extravagant (Howl's Moving Castle), or overwhelmingly heartwarming (Kiki's Delivery Service), rest assured it will work out brilliantly.

Michael Giacchino is a rising-to-fame composer, two time oscar nominee (Rataouille, Up) and one time winner (Up). You may have heard his music for Lost (a television show), Star Trek, or the recent John Carter.

Alexandre Desplat is known for subtle, moody, and breathtaking melodies woven throughout his scores. Known for the final two Harry Potter scores, and several oscar-nominated scores such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "The King's Speech." He's an acquired taste but I think once you get to know his music you'll find yourself immersed in it.

I know I left out a lot, but I don't expect many to vote and I can't include everyone! Vote for your top two. My votes are for Joe Hisaishi and Danny Elfman.

Music / Favorite Game Soundtracks
April 27, 2012, 10:46:03 PM
Uhm I know this is such a broad question. But list some of you favorites here.

Super Mario Galaxy / Super Mario Galaxy 2: Nintendo's foray into the live orchestra was fantastic. Most near perfect game soundtracks ever.

LOZ Ocarina of Time: The nostalgia and awe overwhelms me whenever I hear this soundtrack.

Super Mario 64: the exotic, happy themes in this game are what I consider to be Kondo's finest work, better than his fewer than ten songs for the whole galaxy series anyway.

Pokemon Black and White: love the electronic sound, and sheer multitude and complexity of the score for this game.

Pokemon GS: This is probably the most classic Pokemon soundtrack, with simple chiptunes that are quite beautiful in their own way.

Pokemon RS: A blatant trumpet sound dominates this score, a very distinctive blend of beautiful pieces and scattered tunes.

Pokemon DP: This is simply one of Pokemon's best soundtracks. With some of the cleverest music ever to hit the series, Game Freak's first DS venture delivers.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: simplicity cannot be overestimated. The cuteness and sometimes sheer beauty of this music hits me hard in the heart.

Professor Layton: the accordion, piano, and violin dominate this wonderful French-influenced, sometimes wonderfully jazzy, series.

Cave Story: a surprisingly clever score to a surprisingly ambitious game. Worth a listen, definitely.

There, I listed some obvious ones. Go ahead and comment on the topic.

Music / Musicals?
April 07, 2012, 09:33:18 AM
Does anybody like any musicals? I am not a fan of many of musicals, but there are a few:

My favorite is "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"--it has a brilliant story about a vengeful barber and his accomplice who bakes his victims into her pies, as well as a TON of musical numbers, and all of them are brilliantly written. One of the highlights for me is "A Little Priest," a sweeping off-kilter waltz with ridiculously punny lyrics. ("...and we have some shepherd's pie peppered with actual shepherd on top") The movie adaptation is pretty great as well.

I also like Phantom of the Opera despite its meh storyline, it has a few good songs. And of course there are movie musicals like Nightmare Before Christmas that are also wonderful.

OST Project is shutting down.
The closing of this site is awful for me. I downloaded nearly ALL my game music from that site. And now with the closures of MegaUpload and MultiUpload, everything is just...gone. It's an unfortunate turn of events that got me wondering...will we share the same fate? What if Mediafire is shut down? Where will all the sheets go? Should we be transferring all sheets to dropbox?

And who else used ostproject? :P They really had a wonderful selection. I'm disappointed it's shutting down.

Help! / Help With Finale--Accidentals
March 14, 2012, 02:13:58 PM
Okay this isn't a huge deal, but if I'm in one layer and have a flat note, then switch to another layer and enter the same note later in the measure, it still displays the flat symbol despite the fact that it's in the same measure and isn't necessary. Is there any way to hide the accidental sign or get rid of it?

Movies & TV / Studio Ghibli Films
February 27, 2012, 08:09:31 PM
I've seen most of them by now. Friday I saw the cutest one ever, Whisper of the Heart...god I loved that film.

So pick your top three favorites by everyone's favorite director, Hayao Miyazaki! More polls with other directors coming soon.

Personally I love all of them, but Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke are my favorites. Totoro, Porco, and Kiki have a special place in my heart--they're such great films as well. Ponyo, yepyepyep. Nausicaa and Castle in the Sky aren't my favorites at all :P

Note: technically Nausicaa was made before Studio Ghibli was formed, but it has since been rereleased under the Studio Ghibli banner.

Jub3r7 was the Master Wolf. He played very well. Up until the very end, where he kinda just accepted defeat. He finally wised up at the end to the fact that he needed to kill Blueflower before getting rid of anyone else. Interrogating people to "weed out the wolves" was interesting to watch, and made you seem human to some. Also I'm not sure whose idea it was to purposely miss the first wolfing, but it was a good way to stir things up a little.

Locke (Faux) was N. He seemed disconnected at the beginning, and had little or no coordination with the other wolves. The night that Bird was wolfed, and revived, was because Jub had sent Wrydryn's name to me, and Locke, without knowing this, sent me Bird's name. No one ever clarified which one to kill, so I went with the most recent choice, thinking it only fair. I also think this was the turning point for the wolves, as Bird was now a confirmed human.

Saint Swooper. Ah, the poor man. He was killed too early.

Bird was Alder, and made some really great quick decisions--his vigis were great, especially that of Jub3r7 at the end. His Shadowkirby vigi, and gzgregory lynch, were both amiss, but that doesn't mean he didn't play actively and greatly--in fact, his shrewd analysis of the players was quite impressive.

Wrydryn was Looker, and he also did a fairly good job, but he wasn't overwhelmingly amazing (or on time). I did think it was amazing that he lasted that long without the Wolves killing him.

Blueflower was a great guardian, though really his only incredibly useful move was guarding Bird that one night. He didn't have a lot of opportunity to do much else, but I was impressed with his game for such a new player.

K-NiGhT was That Guy. That Guy Who Didn't Want To Play. Jeez, what a Skinhead! Wait....he WAS the Skinhead? Oh, I see what I did there. Well I would understand if you weren't also on the forums the whole time... so it's not like you didn't have time for it.

Mashi was the (disappointingly inactive) Scientist. Shame On You Mashi for paying more attention to other games. :'( I thought we had something SPECIAL.

Kman96 showed a lot of vigor, and though he doesn't totally get TWG yet, I can see he's going to be good in the future. He has a lot of ambition, and I respect that.

Vermilionvermin, you played really well. REALLY well. You were really disconnected at the end though. Great as always apart from that though.

Shadowkirby's game was tragically brief. Not much to say here.

Gzgregory was incredibly suspicious at the end. o_O Hell, he had ME double checking my sheet to double check whether he was a wolf. That takes a fair amount of (useless here) skill. And apparently your teammates felt the same way.

That being said, I'm going to give out three MVPs.

FIRST AND FOREMOST TO BIRD for being an outstanding human, always keeping up with the game, and using his vigi power extraordinarily.

SECONDLY TO VERMILIONVERMIN for really using deductive reasoning effectively and for a great game played all around.

AND FINALLY TO KMAN96 who, despite his limited knowledge of the game, stayed dedicated until the end and who, I hope, comes to deserve a true MVP in games to come. ^_^

There you have it!

The Werewolf Game / TWG XXVIII: Pokémon Black and White
February 15, 2012, 06:31:56 PM
Who wants to play? Twelve spots.

TWG XXVIII: Pokémon Black and White

TEAM PLASMA: The evil team that is spread across Unova, wreaking havoc among the region. As if this wasn't bad enough, their master, Ghetsis, is a master of disguise and has disguised himself as a normal Pokémon Trainer and has taught his underlings to do the same—though his underlings can still be revealed as red. His son, the mysterious N, can view a player's color every night.
1. Ghetsis (Master Wolf: a Wolf Seered green)
2. N (Wolf Shaman: a Wolf with the power of the Seer)
3. Team Plasma (Wolf)

SPECIAL TRAINERS: These three are helpful to the normal Pokémon Trainers. Alder, the Pokémon Champion, has the ability to kill one player each night phase—which is helpful only provided he knows what he's doing. Looker, a member of the International Police, can unmask one person for what they truly are each night phase. And Professor Juniper, a selfless individual, can guard one person, excluding herself, each night phase in the safety of her laboratory.
4. Alder (Vigi)
5. Looker (Seer)
6. Professor Juniper (Guardian)

POKÉMON TRAINERS: The normal Pokémon Trainers are being kept in the dark and panic is ensuing. They must work together with the Special Trainers to unmask Team Plasma—while avoiding casting suspicion on the wrong person. The Skinhead, an unfortunately suspicious-looking individual, will be unmasked by Looker or N as being a red player, while the Scientist, who is often subject to the stereotype of his type being automatically intelligent, will be unmasked by Looker or N as a blue player.
7. Skinhead (Miller)
8. Scientist (Herring)
9. Pokémon Trainer (Human)

Hugo was amazing! I don't know why I waited this long to see it.

Plot was great, visuals by director Martin Scorcese was amazing, acting was wonderful, music (by LOTR composer Howard Shore) was fantastic...I'm surprised no one has commented on it yet. I think I opted to see tintin instead of this back in dec/jan, but this was far superior. A++

K so I'm in the process of uploading all my songs, with PDF in a ZIP format, to DROPBOX rather than Mediafire as I have a feeling Mediafire may not be with us much longer and in any case Dropbox seems more efficient.

HOW DO I COPY A LINK TO ONE OF MY FILES TO PUT IN A POST??? D: It won't let me copy the link.
