Marvel movies are just action porn, and they generally do a pretty good job of that.  I don't know why you guys hate on them because that's their entire purpose and they fulfill it.  I don't go in expecting some high brow character arc or amazing storyline, I expect to be entertained, and that entertainment is enhanced by there being an overarching story connecting them, regardless of how silly/genero it may be.  The fact that it's all comic dudes that you may or may not have had some extracurricular investment in is also pretty neat.

^you might not treat them as incredible films in that regard, but the general public does and it gets really annoying for people who don't like action flicks

People will like what they like, but just because its popular (or perhaps more "common" or "base" in its appeal) doesn't make it any better worse than other fare by default.
Try to do everything; you're bound to succeed with at least one.

Is there anyone here who likes the films of Laika? The four films they've made are Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings. I'm a huge, huge fan of their work and style of stop-motion and have been revisiting a couple of their movies. My favorite is The Boxtrolls, because it's super quirky and the animation is spectacular and the story is really sweet and interesting. Has anyone else seen that one, or the others?

My favorite scene in The Boxtrolls is a really intricate dance sequence where all of the puppets are waltzing in perfect time with the score. You have the main kid characters trying to dance their way across the floor, while the film's villain (who for plot purposes is dressed in drag) is shoving people out of his way trying to catch up with them. It's a really exhilarating and astounding bit of animation, and I've watched that particular sequence soooo many times just trying to figure out how they achieved the camera angles and fluidity of it all. I really recommend checking it out if you're the sort of dork who thinks stop-motion animation is neat.

nitro does.  I think stopmotion is cool, but I'm not too invested in it and those types of movies don't seem interesting to me.

I kind of feel like Laika has the same quality as Pixar in terms of animation and having a heart to their stories, though

That's fair. I like them as long as they aren't filled with stupid jokes.

I just don't like them when the reason you're supposed to feel good is really dumb.
