Music / The NSM Community Collaborative Cover (Potential) Project!
« on: February 29, 2016, 11:46:42 PM »
Too often I feel that piano arrangements are too limiting, and that we could make something bigger out of an arrangement. And today I got this idea... why not a big-scale collaborative cover by the community of NSM? I think we would really be able to make a great piece of work as a community... that is, if we ever manage to get this finished. I doubt this will ever be finished in the near future, but perhaps at a time when we are more available, such as in the summer, this could potentially become a reality. (Key word: potentially.)

If we decide to go through with this, we'll need a person or people to arrange the music for all the available instruments. We'll also need a cast of instruments, so feel free to post what instruments you play.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions for a theme to cover? (Preferably from a video game, since after all, NSM is about video game music.)

Worst case scenario, this thread just dies and becomes forgotten eventually... but best case scenario, we can make a great America video game music cover through this (potential) project.

Possible Participants:
  • mastersuperfan - Piano
  • braixen1264 - Acoustic Guitar
  • E. Gadd Industries - Piano
  • Olimar12345 - Bass Trombone, Baritone Horn, Melodica
  • Altissimo - Trumpet
  • Latios212 - Piano
  • Yug Guy - Piano, Drum Set
  • Zunawe - Trombone, Ocarina
  • cashwarrior1 - Hand Percussion
  • Sebastian - Cello
  • JDMEK5 - Piano, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Bass, Harmonica, Banjo, Cuatro
  • Th3Gast3r - Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Mellophone
(I'm leaving out the ones that people are tentative on/not very good at, but if someone still wants to try one of your iffy instruments, feel free to post about it.)

(I say possible because, with the smaller scale covers that I'd like to get done, chances are not everyone is going to be involved in each cover. Arrangers are also needed for this to work, but those can be decided upon after the theme is chosen, unless someone wants to arrange no matter what.)

Possible Themes:
  • "And what if I can't? What if I'm not worthy of her ideals?" - Fire Emblem: Awakening
  • Route 201 - Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Arranged by braixen1264)

Miscellaneous Arrangements / mastersuperfan's Orchestrations

Uh, I guess I can orchestrate stuff? Actually, I'm making orchestrations for a purpose, but I'll keep that purpose a secret. ;)

Help! / PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness Copyright
« on: November 29, 2015, 12:38:09 AM »
What copyright should I use for an arrangement from a theme in PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness? I've checked the site, and it seems that every single arranger that has contributed PMD Explorers sheets has used a different copyright. :[

Help! / Swing and Straight Eighths
« on: November 26, 2015, 09:30:45 PM »
Is there a way to notate straight eighths in swing? I don't want to re-notate several phrases into a ton of triplets in order to notate two measures with straight eighths playing at the same time as swing eighths.

More specifically, I'm referring to the part at 0:53 in this theme:

Help! / Formatting Issues with Layers
« on: October 17, 2015, 07:38:37 PM »

So, today I created an arrangement of "Pearl Fey ~ With Pearly" from PW: AA: JFA, but since there are three or four voices close in pitch throughout the theme, the layers overlap and make it look kind of ugly. Notably, there's one thing that needs to be fixed, but I'm not sure how. In m11 and m15, in the right hand, when both notes play the G, the one in Layer 1 is dotted, but you can't see the dot because the other G is blocking it. Any help on this?

Also, since I don't use layers too often, let alone so conflicting like this, I'd also appreciate other advice on how to improve the formatting in this arrangement, notably what I should do the rests.

Nintendo / Nintendo Music Challenge
« on: October 12, 2015, 02:34:11 AM »
Well, I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Music, but I figured I might as well put it in this board since it seems a little more active...

Anyways, I've coded a game that has you choose the origin of a music between Mario, Kirby, Pokémon, or Zelda. Relatively simple, but something I'm proud of. I'm sure you guys would be good at it. ;) There are more details in the How to Play of the actual game. The gist of it is:

- You listen to a theme from one of the four franchises
- You can choose to guess 1 of the 4 for 2 points if you get it correct
- You can choose to guess 2 of the 4 for 1 point if you get it correct
- You can choose to type in the name of the specific game for 4 points if you get it correct (the checking system is very accurate as long as you don't make any spelling errors and/or screw up the game's name). You must also enter the very FIRST game that it was in.

You can find the files here. There are versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux (although I don't know if Linux actually works).

NOTE TO MAC USERS: In order for the file to work, you need to go into System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General and choose "Allow apps downloaded from anywhere."
Links taken down

Since it has like 80 mp3 files, it might take a little while to download. :P Also, let me know if there are any bugs!

Feedback / Finale NotePad
« on: May 10, 2013, 02:49:42 AM »
I started off, and I still do, using Noteflight. I found out that I had to use Finale software for this site, but when trying Finale NotePad out, it lacks many features and is WAY more difficult to use. How do you change the text? How do you switch time signatures? When I try to replace or add a note, it creates a new layer! Perhaps it may just be me, but I think Finale NotePad is really inconvenient, and I don't want to pay for the higher versions. Even explanations about how it works would be helpful as well. What do you all feel about Finale NotePad?
