Forum Games / Does Australia Exist?
« on: October 17, 2015, 05:57:23 AM »
I would like to propose several arguments that refute the notion that there exists a continent named Australia that is home to an ancestry of criminals and also a cesspool of dangerous, diverse animals that could kill any population within years.  I'll begin my argument with logical propositions and then lead onto real world examples.

1. Suppose that Australia exists.
2. Suppose that Australia is a country.
3. Suppose that Australia is a continent.
4. However, we know there are seven continents.  Those continents being North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Antarctica, and Atlantis.
5. The existence of Australia suggests the existence of an eight continent, which is clearly impossible.
6. Therefore, Australia does not exist.

1. Suppose that Australia exists.
2. If Australia exists, there must be living people in the world that have visited Australia.
3. There is no primary evidence that living people in the world have visited Australia; only baseless claims and photos that could easily be photoshopped.
4. Therefore, Australia does not exist.

1. Suppose that Australia exists.
2. Suppose that dangerous animals that could destroy an entire population within years exist.
3. Then even if a population existed in Australia, that population would be eliminated within years and thus, Australia would not host people to live on it.
4. Since no one is living in Australia, there is no proof of its existence.
5. Therefore, Australia does not exist.

1. Suppose that Australia exists.
2. Suppose that Austria exists.
3. Then Australia is a typo for Austria.
4. Therefore, Australia does not exist.

And there you have it!  I'm open to hearing the stances of others on this intense, ubiquitously relevant issue.  It's certainly an important topic of discussion in any intellectual circle.

The Werewolf Game / TWG 81: Player Sign Ups
« on: May 21, 2015, 03:26:27 AM »
Okay, I've been thinking about it and I think we should give a game another go.  If the game ends with severe inactivity, there may have to be a TWG hiatus on NSM until we can set up a new Player base and perhaps even fresh TWG ideas.

I think Latios212 may have hit the nail on the head.  This being a more casual TWG forum in comparison to other sites, it's easier to inspire activity in games where people can involve themselves directly into a game.  I think this is why the Shotgun Mechanic worked out whereas the Ballot Box seerings/revivings didn't.  Having the potential to make something major occur in the game seems to be a motivating factor for Players and I think it would be only beneficial if Hosts that put up their games take that into consideration with powers or some sort of overall Game Mechanic.

Humans Win!

Okay, so.

The game was a complete disaster and I'm sorry about that.  In person, people usually would discuss and debate a lot when determining Teams and Wolves could usually determine who was Oberon and who was Merlin more easily than in this game.  I honestly was not expecting Humans to win three Overall Successes without any conversation whatsoever.  It seems that Avalon doesn't work out well on a forum format, or perhaps I would need to add some sort of twist for next time.

Sorry that the game was such a bust.  I was hoping it would be a good one given the excitement for it, but it seems it was a belying sign.

TWG 79: CIRCLE NINE

1. Assassin Wolf - If Humans accumulate 3 Overall Successes, makes one guess towards which Player is Merlin.  If the guess is correct, Wolves win the game and Humans lose.
2. Wolf
3. Oberon - On the Wolf Team, but doesn't know the Wolves, but his/her Success/Fail vote is worth 2.
4. Merlin - Is told the identities of the Wolves, Oberon, and the Miller, but not which is which.  If his identity is guessed by the Assassin Wolf at endgame, Wolves win and Humans lose.
5. Miller - Told he/she's normal Human.
6. Human
7. Human
8. Human
9. Human

Human Victory Condition: Complete 3 Overall Successes in Quests and have Merlin's identity kept secret at endgame.
Wolf Victory Condition: Have Humans complete 3 Overall Failures in Quests or guess Merlin's identity after Humans have Overall Success in 3 Quests.

There will be no deaths this game.  Instead, every Phase, each Player votes for a Team of X number of Players (specified at the beginning of each Phase) to form a Quest Team for the next Night Phase.  X Players are chosen based on those who have the most votes (ties are broken through KitBs).  During the Night Phase, each of the Players in the Team will send a message to the Host on whether they would like for the Quest to Succeed or Fail.  Depending on the number of Success/Fail votes received, the Quest will be deemed as an Overall Success or an Overall Failure.  In general, a Quest is an Overall Success if more than 50% of the Team makes Success votes.

Players will be told whether the Mission is an Overall Success or Failure, but not the votes.

Private conversations will be restricted against being private this game.  Meaning, if you decide to chat one on one with a Player, you'll have to post the chatlog in its entirety to the thread.  In other words, it would be best to keep conversations in the thread.  The two Wolves will be able to PM each other with no restrictions, however.

Day 1: Team of 3
Night 1: Two Fail Votes lead to Overall Quest Failure

Day 2: Team of 4
Night 2: Two Fail Votes lead to Overall Quest Failure

Day 3: Team of 4
Night 3: Two Fail Votes lead to Overall Quest Failure

Day 4: Team of 5
Night 4: Three Fail Votes lead to Overall Quest Failure

Day 5: Team of 5
Night 5: Three Fail Votes lead to Overall Quest Failure

TWG 78: Troll-tan's Great Adventure

Mechanics:
Shotgun - Every Day Phase, there will be a Shotgun present.  The first Player to say "I shoot [Player]" has a 1/n chance of successfully shooting the Player, where n is the number of living Players.  The second Player will have a 1/(n-1) chance of successfully shooting, the third a 1/(n-2), etc. until a successful shot is made.  If the Player targeted to be shot is dead, the shot will ricochet from the corpse to the shooter.  The Shotgun may make only one successful shot per Day Phase.  A Player may only attempt to shoot once per Phase.  The Shotgun must be used each Day Phase, or else everyone alive in the game loses.  If a Player is shot by the Shotgun but is wearing a Bulletproof Vest, it will be announced to the thread.  A Player shot by the Shotgun will cardflip his/her Role.

Bulletproof Vest - The Wolves choose one of the two Wolves to wear a Bulletproof Vest at the beginning of the game.

Ballot Box Seering - During every Night Phase, every Player sends the Host a PM with a seering vote on the name of a living Player.  One seering vote is selected at random at the end of the Night Phase and that Player is publicly seered in the topic.  The number of seering votes on each Player is also revealed at the end of the Night Phase.

Ballot Box Reviving - Every odd Night Phase, every Player sends the Host a PM with the name of a lynched Player.  The Player with the most votes is revived.

Power Order: Revivings < Seerings < Paintings < Wolfings

1. Wolf Painter with Bulletproof Vest - Sends a message to the Host during the Night Phase with the name of a Player.  That Player is seered Red for that Night Phase.  If shot by the Shotgun, will survive once.
2. Wolf Painter - Sends a message to the Host during the Night Phase with the name of a Player.  That Player is seered Red for that Night Phase.
3. Fool - Wins if lynched (being shot does not count as a lynch).  Sends the Host a PM with the name of a Player every Night Phase.  Learns that Player's colour at the end of the Phase.
4. Human with Bulletproof Vest - Told he/she is a normal Human.  If shot by the Shotgun, will survive once.
5. Human with Bulletproof Vest -  Told he/she is a normal Human.  If shot by the Shotgun, will survive once.

The Werewolf Game / TWG Championships - NSM Representative
« on: March 22, 2015, 08:31:23 PM »
So, as I stated in the Discussion thread, we'll be having a formal vote in order to decide the NSM Representative for the 2+2 forums TWG Championships.

Before we begin with the votes, we'll need some nominations.  Everyone should post here stating whether they would like to nominate themselves or others.  Please note that if you do want to participate, you must be active during the applicable dates.  Information regarding such can be found here.  For those nominated by others, please also post stating whether you would be interested in participating.

After some deliberation with Liggy, we've decided that the Schulze method of voting would be the 'best' for choosing a representative.  The specifics of how the winner is determined isn't anything important for the voters to know; all you'll need to do is rank each nominee from first to last, with first being whom you most want to be representative.  The reason we're opting for this voting method is because it prevents strategic voting (e.g. Person A ranking Person B low because he/she knows Person B will get a lot of votes), since there's lesser impact from doing so.  The optimal ranking is an honest one, in other words.

Nominations will last until March 23rd at 11PM EDT, which is about 31 hours and 30 minutes from this post.
